For this middle-grade, Afrikaans language book I got the opportunity to both work with a publisher that I have always wanted to work with (Lapa/Penguin), and also to work on a type of book that I myself love to read; Fantasy! Specifically the type of fantasy that takes place partly in the real world. Drawing horses (or unicorns) was a new challenge and keeping the colour palette fun and magical, while matching the copious amounts of blue and green in the text was a challenge.
Moving to a new town and a new school is never easy and for the shy Nea, it's even harder. Perhaps Keisha's birthday party will be a new beginning - especially when Nea sees that Keisha loves unicorns just as much as she does! While playing hide and seek, Nea discovers a secret tunnel in the garden, and through the tunnel, in the middle of a magical forest, is a unicorn, stuck in the mud! Will Nea and Keisha be able to save Luna the unicorn... and become friends in the process?
